Back Pew Brewing makes its home in the hallowed halls of an old church building, but don’t let that fool you into thinking our brewery is conventional. We chart our own course and venture into the beer-brewing unknown. We’re inspired by the unconventional, the strange, and the original. We aren’t afraid to brew boldly, and we never confine ourselves to the straight and narrow. We’re fueled by a passion to create damn good craft beer.
BEERS OF THE MONTH
OCTOBER
TANUKI
American IPA, 6.4% ABV, 35 IBU
Tanuki is brewed on the hot side with equal parts Maris Otter and Pilsner malt to keep the beer from being too overbearing malty on the pallet, but to leave a solid foundation for the hops. All of those IBU’s are accumulated during a cold whirlpool of Sultana, Azacca, and Comet hops for a super fruity experience! We ferment it with a Hornindal Kveik yeast for a punchy pineapple type of flavor, then add a healthy dry hop (near saturation) for that extra aroma.
BLUE TESTAMENT
American Pilsner, 5.2% ABV, 29 IBU
As our flagship beer, this pilsner was crafted with passion to bring out the best in its every unique element. Nowhere else will you find a brew that combines traditional German flavors with the sweetness of Texas blue corn to create a light but rich experience. Every sip is like a divine intervention on your palate.

OUR STORY
Bobby Harl, PhD, MBA – Founder and Brewmaster
Bobby’s passion for brewing beer started in 2008 on a home-brew set, and only grew from there. While earning his PhD and MBA at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Bobby also worked with those who came to be his mentors, Steve Scoville and Michael Kwas, who started Little Harpeth Brewing Company. The experience gained at Little Harpeth helped Bobby develop a further appreciation for both the technical and artistic sides of brewing.
In 2014, Bobby returned home to Houston with a dream of crafting beers full of flavor, rich character, and building an awesome place for friends and family to enjoy them. Thus began Back Pew Brewing.
